This New Year’s Day 2018, California State Parks will participate in the 7th Annual First Day Hikes at parks across the state. We will be walking around the North Grove Campground exploring the history and the ecology of the wet meadow at Big Trees. We will also discuss some of the history of the campground as it relates the Civilian Conservation Core and their influence on Calaveras Big Trees State Park. This is an easy ADA accessible 1-mile hike.

Likely things to see would be deer, birds, animal tracks, lichen and fungi. This is an easy to moderate 1-mile hike that starts at 10 a.
Bring water and snack and wear boots or shoes with good traction in case of mud. The trail is not stroller friendly. Start the New Year off with an outing on the north side of Mount Diablo. 5 miles with 1,200 foot elevation gain. This will be followed by lunch alongside Mitchell Creek.
